About Laurie Anderson:

Another Day in America

Arguably the world’s most popular – and influential – performance artist, Laurie Anderson last performed in Calgary in 2005, with her piece The End of the Moon, created after a time as artist-in-residence for NASA. Now, 7 years later, Laurie returns as High Performance Rodeo Artist-in-Residence, with Another Day In America, an intimate work-in-progress about exactly that. Expect new songs, new stories, biting and ironic social and political observation, loads of humour, and a starring role for Fenway Bergamot, Laurie Anderson’s infamous audio-drag alter ego. Another Day In America is being presented alongside her installation, The Gray Rabbit, which will be exhibited at the Glenbow Museum.

“Laurie Anderson is a singer-songwriter of crushing poignance – a minimalist painter of melancholy moods who addresses universal themes in the vernacular of the commonplace.”

-Rolling Stone

The Gray Rabbit

This is the North American premiere of The Gray Rabbit. This video-based installation recounts a pivotal childhood event in Laurie’s life, when she broke her back at age 12. As Laurie grows older, she realizes that she has told this story so many times that she is actually telling a ‘cleansed’ version of the tale, that is, what is palatable for her to remember.

Laurie Anderson…has broken through and made some of the most interesting art of the late 20th Century…earning as she goes a reputation as one of the world’s premiere performance artists.”
